Welcome
Ivy cottage is a delightful 18th century detached cottage tucked away in a quiet country location with far-reaching views across the magical and historic village of Tintagel and the Atlantic ocean. The original parts of the Cottage are built out of stone and cob and many of the original features still exist today.
A warm welcome and cosy ambience awaits you at Ivy Cottage.
The sitting room has low ceilings with original beams and a large wood burning stove set into a feature inglenook fireplace. The kitchen is fully fitted with oak cabinets and leads into the spacious conservatory style dining room with vaulted ceilings. This is a lovely sunny room with french doors that lead you out onto the slate patio terrace and the lawned garden.
The upstairs bedrooms are approached via a spiral wooden staircase and both have high vaulted ceilings and original beams, salvaged from shipwrecks along the coastline. Both bedrooms have very good quality beds and deep comfy mattresses for a wonderful night's sleep. The bathroom is well fitted with a bath with overhead shower.
Outside, a patio terrace with a barbecue area and garden furniture leads to a good size garden and parking for two cars.
The cottage is spacious and a fabulous place to stay throughout all seasons of the year.

Local area
This area of North Cornwall is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB) and there is a vast range of sightseeing, walking and other activities available in the area.
In the centre of the rugged and romantic coastline is Tintagel; with its legendary connection to King Arthur. The village is a bustling hive of activity with many gift shops and fine eateries, such as Ye Olde Malthouse Inn. Spend a day exploring the specular Tintagel Castle. Walk across the bridge between the main land and headland to take in the breath-taking views. Once on the headland, explore the rich history; walk among the castle ruins, find early-medieval remains and locate the life-size bronze statue of an ancient king. Visit Merlin’s Cave on Tintagel beach.
Interesting Places to Visit
St. Nectan’s Glen is the site of an old Hermitage and the majestic waterfall found there is a real treat. You can enjoy a walk there from the cottage by joining the public footbath at Halgabron. The town of Tintagel offers several places of interest; including The Old Post Office (National Trust) and Tintagel Castle (English Heritage). A little further afield are Boscastle (with its Museum of Witchcraft) and Port Isaac. Rock and Padstow are both well worth a visit and are an easy drive. Many of our visitors enjoy taking the passenger ferry from Rock to Padstow where you can explore the shops and harbour of Padstow. Mention must also be made of the Eden Project down at St. Austell. This is a real must for any one visiting Cornwall. St. Austell is approximately a 45-to-50-minute drive from the Cottage.
Outdoor activities
Walk the South West Coast Path which starts in North Devon and passes through Tintagel as it snakes its way down along the Cornish coast. Or take a trip to Wadebridge and enjoy cycling, or walking, along the popular Camel Trail. If you decide to head along the Camel Trail towards Bodmin why not use the opportunity to visit the historic former prison in Bodmin. For a slightly more adventurous experience explore the beautiful North Cornish coast on a Kayak or Paddleboard from Port Gaverne with Cornish Rocktors?
Beaches
The tidal beach at Trebarwith Strand is about 1.75 miles from the Cottage. The beach itself is sandy at low tide and stretches to around half a mile or so and is great for surfing or bodyboarding. Why not enjoy surfing lessons with the Trebarwith Surfing School? After the beach pop up to The Port William pub for a cool drink and sit out on its terrace overlooking the rocks and beach. Further South along the coast is Polzeath, or the beautiful Daymar Bay. A drive North will bring you to the long, sandy beach at Widemouth Bay; and a little further on Summerleaze Beach in Bude. Both are great for swimming, surfing, or just relaxing with a book.
Food and drink
There are a range of pubs and restaurants locally that offer a variety of foods. Within Tintagel we’d recommend the Olde Malthouse Inn. The Mill House Inn on the drive towards Trebarwith Strand, serves some great food. Or eat at The Port William pub also at Trebarwith Strand. In Boscastle The Wellington Hotel, or the Cobweb Inn serve excellent food. Boscastle Farm Shop is a real working farm shop that offers quality produce and a hearty breakfast or lunch in a beautiful setting with far reaching sea views! For Michelin-starred food try Outlaw's New Road, Chapel Café and Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen in Port Isaac. In Polzeath TJ’s Surf Café and Surfside offer great food.
Reviews
‘Lovely cottage, thank you for the wine! Where shall we start; we have driven all over Cornwall, and covered 550 miles!! We have visited St. Michael’s Mount, Penzance, Mousehole, St. Ives, surrounding beaches, all fabulous, Newquay, Padstow, Port Isaac, very quaint; Tintagel Castle, which is not for the fainthearted as there are many steep steps to climb but a must all the same, but the jewel in the crown for this area, in our opinion, has to be St. Nectan’s Glenn. Wow, simply amazing!! A beautiful place to be and to see. But once again steps are steep, but well worth the experience. Carrot cake and tea at the top was nice too!! Visited Bude and we were advised to visit Clovelly. If you have never heard of this little port, you must pay it a visit. A lovely little village where time seems to have stood still – beautiful and stunning.’ (The L & R family - September 2021)
‘Nice cottage in a lovely setting. Ideal for beach, villages and walking. Max enjoyed the wildlife; cows and horses – he did not know what to make of them! Best pastries in Boscastle and the beach at Trebarwith Strand is stunning! Had a great break from the city – don’t want to go home!!!’ (The K & I family – May 2021)
